How to Downsize and Declutter Without Sacrificing Things You Love

IMAGINE downsizing from a five-bedroom townhouse to a two-bedroom apartment. Now consider that the couple making the move are avid collectors who lived in Hong Kong and London before squeezing themselves into 1,300 square feet in Manhattan. How could clutter and claustrophobia not ensue? One half of the pair, interior designer Perry Sayles, admits that they stored some possessions and gave others to family.

Art Is at the Heart of This Modern Iceland Home

Entrepreneur and art patron Oliver Luckett moved to Iceland with his partner Scott Guinn in 2015, intending to take a break from working in California and perhaps work on a second book. Instead, the couple went on to organize music festivals, establish multiple companies and transform their home there—one of Reykjavík’s most iconic properties—into a community arts hub.

How one woman on a horse at an Oakland protest became a symbol for revolution

When Brianna Noble rode her horse, Dapper Dan, through downtown Oakland ahead of protests condemning the killing of George Floyd in police custody, she wanted to make a statement. “You can’t ignore a big, old pretty horse with a black woman on it,” says Noble, a professional horse trainer and riding instructor who was born in the Bay Area.

Meet the '80s Pop-Music Sensation Turned Highbrow-Art Kingpin

Magne Furuholmen is a keen student of the transformative power of media. “I get a lot of inspiration from working. KUALA LUMPUR Plan your day like magic

I wrote the KL guide to Kuala Lumpur with local expert Alexandra Wong. Here's an excerpt: "Thanks to its mix of cultures, Malaysia has a vibrant culinary scene, featuring Chinese, Malay, Indian and Indian-Muslim food. An important local cuisine is Hainanese, originally introduced by Chinese immigrants in the 19th and early 20th centuries. There are also many Western eateries around the city. When dining out, you can opt for a casual Indian curry house serving local specialties such as spicy banana leaf rice, or roadside stalls dishing up Chinese noodles and satay. There’s molecular gastronomy at fine-dining restaurants and, in contrast, mamak stalls for a late-night roti (Indian-style flatbread). The city’s nightlife includes cocktail bars to karaoke joints."

Makers, Inc

Finding quality handcrafted products unique to a destination is always a thrill. Perhaps you’ll uncover a hand-tooled leather bag or an artisanal oil while exploring a backstreet market, or pick up some statement earrings at a local silversmith’s boutique. But in creative hubs all over the world, local makers, artists and enthusiasts are banding together to go one better. Not only can you buy their products, you can also step into their studios and workshops to discover the stories and passions behind the goods firsthand.

Australian and New Zealand acts were out in force at Coachella this year: Flume, Jagwar Ma, Empire Of The Sun, the Preatures, Flight Facilities, Anna Lunoe, Lorde and the Naked And Famous wowed crowds on both weekends of the two-day festival. From their debut 2012 EP Shaking Hands and lead single "Take A Card" – one of the most played local tracks on Australian radio that year – to the Indio desert: Sydney rock and roll outfit The Preatures played in the blazing midday sun to the crowd thronging the Coachella Stage on day one.
